World Cup mock-up
FIFA announced the final lists of teams participating in the World Cup.
The lists included a record number of 1,248 players representing 48 countries.
The lists include Argentine star Lionel Messi, Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo and Mexican Guillermo Ochoa, who are preparing for a record participation in the World Cup for the sixth time.
According to FIFA, among the players who will play 104 matches in Canada, the United States and Mexico, 357 players have previously participated at least once in previous World Cup editions, while the 2026 edition will witness the participation of about 891 players for the first time.
The teams’ rosters also reflect a great diversity of ages, with more than 25 years of age separating the oldest and youngest players. Scottish goalkeeper Craig Gordon is 43 years and 162 days old, while promising Mexican Gilberto Moura is 17 years and 240 days old. He is among 22 players in the tournament under the age of 20, while seven players are at least 40 years old.
