KUCHING (April 16): Hope Place Kuching is providing milk powder to a malnourished two-year-old girl, as well as basic food aid to her struggling family.
In a statement, Hope Place said they were alerted to the family’s plight by a social worker after young Adriana Roseline was diagnosed as underweight and with anemia at the Batu Kawa Health Clinic.
“Adriana lives in a rented flat with her parents and two elder siblings. Her mother Roseline, 36, said the child takes some solid food but her diet lacks proper nutrients for a two-year-old,” it said.
During a recent visit, Roseline told Hope Place representatives that she suffered postpartum psychosis after giving birth to Adriana, and continues to take oral medication for her hallucinations.
Adriana’s father Nisom, 46, works at a hardware store earning minimum pay.
Her brother Oliver, 16, does not have a birth certificate as he was not registered at birth, and has never attended school.
Her sister Sophia, 6, does have a birth certificate and is due to start school next year.
According to Roseline, Oliver does most of the house chores and also takes care of her.
