A foreigner was all smiles after his belongings were returned to him by police, following their theft in Phnom Penh last week.
The incident occurred at 10 am last Thursday on 7 Makara Road, in Anlong Kong village, Prey Sar commune, Dangkor district, Phnom Penh.
Four suspects on motorbikes stole the wallets of a Korean man and a Japanese woman who were preaching Christianity.
Upon hearing of the crime, Lieutenant Colonel Jim Sitha, Deputy Inspector of Dangkor District Police, ordered the police to investigate to identify the perpetrators.
Four days later, the police identified the suspects and, in conjunction with the Chbar Ampov district police and the Minor Crimes Bureau of the Phnom Penh Metropolitan Police Department, arrested the three suspects.
The suspects have been named as Ang Sivaman, alias Mang, 18, a mobile phone repairman, residing at 406 Polaris Street, Borey Peng Huot, Veal Sbov commune, Chbar Ampov district. Moun Chamroeun Rithy, 26, residing at Odeum village, Chom Chao 3 commune, Por Sen Chey district, and Seng Leang, 24, a factory worker, residing at Trapaing Thleung village, Chom Chao 1 commune, Por Sen Chey district.
Police seized 15 mobile phones, one bag of crystal methamphetamine, two motorbikes, and nine bracelets from the criminals.
The suspects were taken for questioning at the Dangkor district police station, where they confessed that they stole the two victims’ bags. The suspects remain in detention pending further legal proceedings.
The foreigner’s belongings have been returned to them by the police.
