The Fijian Elections Office has been allocated $23.2 million to prepare for the upcoming general election, while an additional $18.2 million has been set aside for main election day operations, the Government announced last Friday.
Presenting the 2026-2027 National Budget, Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel said significant funding had been committed to ensure the smooth delivery of national democratic processes, including elections, a referendum and the national census.
“For the conduct of the upcoming elections, the Fijian Elections Office has been allocated a sum of $23.2 million to cater for the preparation of the upcoming general election,” Mr Immanuel said.
“In addition, a separate budget of $18.2 million has been set aside under Head 50 to cater for the main election day expenses.”
He also confirmed funding support for key electoral institutions, including the Electoral Commission.
“The Electoral Commission is provided a funding of around $556,000.”
Mr Immanuel further announced that preparations were also underway for a national referendum, with substantial funding allocated to support its conduct.
“For the conduct of the national referendum, a funding of $20 million has been set aside.
“We will also conduct the 2027 Census with a total funding of $12 million in this budget.”
The Finance Minister said the allocations reflected Government’s commitment to strengthening democratic processes and ensuring the effective delivery of national statistical and electoral exercises.
