Draádon A. Ackie of the Richland Park SDA has topped this year’s Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, scoring 98.20%, with 11 students in the top 10 spots of the exams amidst multiple ties.
Three students tied for second place, three for sixth place and two for 10th place, according to preliminary results released by the Ministry of Education on Friday.
Ackie was also among the nine top performers in the language element of the examination, scoring 96%.
Naailah Azziza Stevenson of the Kingstown Preparatory School (KPS) placed first for girls and second overall.
Three students tied for third place. They are: Amiah Kristal Anderson, of KPS; Uliano Ozarie Ryan, of Dickson Methodist; and Michael E. Febuary, also of Richland Park SDA.
These students also placed second for their gender.
There was a three-way tie for sixth place, shared among Anniah Aysia John, of KPS; Philan B. Lewis, of Richland Park SDA; and Akili Adekola Neverson, of Sugar Mill Academy.
John placed third for girls while Lewis and Neverson also tied for fourth place among the girls.
Damien Skyler Franklyn of Windsor Primary placed ninth overall and sixth for boys.
There was a two-way tie for 10th position between Orijé Orando Brewster of KPS and Zuri Sarina Salandy of Brighton Methodist.
Brewster placed seventh for boys, while Salandy placed fourth for girls.
Of the 1,766 Grade 6 students registered, 1760 wrote the final examinations, which were concluded on May 14.
The preliminary results indicate that 1,557 students or (88.47%) passed the exam, a slight increase over last year’s 87.34%.
This number is made up of 732 males and 825 females.
The criterion for determining the required standard is that students must acquire at least 50% of the possible 500 marks.
Students’ final scores were derived from the aggregate scores of both components of the CPEA — external assessment and school-based assessment (SBA).
The SBA attracted a maximum of 200 marks, or 40% of the total score, while the external assessment was worth 300 marks, or 60% of the total score.
The external assessment consisted of multiple-choice tests in mathematics, science, language arts and social studies.
The SBA comprised a project, a writing portfolio, a book report, as well as teacher tests, pupil-made tests, and can-do skills exercises in mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies.
