QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): A check dam has been constructed and inaugurated at a cost of 1.8 million afghanis in Ab Kamari district of western Badghis province, an official said on Tuesday.
Governor’s spokesman Rahimuddin Rahimi said the check dam was built to store seasonal water. It is over 23 metres long and has a storage capacity of around 4,000 cubic metres of water.
He said the project was implemented at a cost of 1.8 million afghanis and would play an important role in water resource management, preventing wastage of seasonal water and protecting agricultural land.
Rahimi added that the dam would also have a positive impact on strengthening natural resources and improving the agricultural situation in the area.
