Miami/The contemporary art gallery Zapata Gallery, in Miami, will celebrate its fourth anniversary with the inauguration of Zapata Gallery Vol. IVa collective exhibition that brings together more than 30 artists, mainly Cuban, from different generations and trajectories. The exhibition proposes a journey through the diversity of languages, styles and experiences that characterize the artistic creation of the Island and its diaspora.
Among the participants are fundamental names in contemporary Cuban art such as Manuel Mendive, José Bedia, Roberto Fabelo, Nelson Domínguez, Umberto Peña and Alexis Leyva Machado (Kcho), whose works have contributed to shaping the panorama of Cuban visual arts in recent decades.
The exhibition also includes Roberto Diago, Roberto Estopiñán, Moisés Finalé, Gustavo Acosta, Carlos Quintana, Consuelo Castañeda and Florencio Gelabert, along with creators from later generations such as Reynier Leyva Novo, Camila Lobón, Niels Reyes, Lianet Martínez, Alejandro Taquechel, Osy Milián and Maykel Rodríguez, among others.
The coexistence of established and emerging artists will allow us to appreciate different approaches to identity, memory, spirituality and social transformations, recurring issues in contemporary Cuban art. Painting, sculpture, photography and conceptual practices are part of the languages that usually make up the programming of this space.
Founded in 2022 by collector Zeriocha Zapata, the gallery has established itself as a meeting point for artists and collectors interested in Cuban creation. Zapata, born in Peru and educated in Cuba, studied Medicine at the University of Havana before settling in Miami, where he developed his interest in collecting and the visual arts.
Since its opening, the space has presented exhibitions such as Zapata Collection Vol. I, Vol. II and Vol. IIIas well as individual and collective projects dedicated to artists of different generations. His previous proposals include: Power Interface, by Reynier Leyva Novo and Rodolfo Peraza; Proj(3)ctwith Camila Lobón, Nelson Jalil and Alejandro Taquechel; and Traveling in the Light IIby Consuelo Castañeda.
The new exhibition is part of that trajectory and celebrates four years of activity of a private institution that has given special prominence to Cuban art within the cultural circuit of Miami.
