Buckingham Palace spoke out following the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, ahead of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s planned state visit to the United States.
The king was reportedly fully briefed on developments and, according to the palace, was relieved after it was confirmed that US President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and other guests were unharmed.
Officials are currently assessing whether the incident will affect the planned four-day state visit, which is scheduled to begin tomorrow, April 27. According to the palace, consultations with American partners and security teams are planned during the day to assess whether changes in the schedule are necessary.
The statement emphasizes that all security aspects will be considered, but for now there is no confirmation of a possible postponement of the visit.
According to available information, the King and Queen privately contacted the US President and First Lady to express their support and solidarity with all those affected by the event, as well as thank the security services for their quick response.
Incidentally, this would be the first state visit of the British monarch to the United States of America since 2007, when Queen Elizabeth made her fourth official visit to that country.
