Several readers contacted the editorial office of the news portal “What’s happening in Kaunas” asking what was going on at the Lithuanian dishes restaurant “Berneliau užeiga” in Šilainiai.
“Hello, what’s going on in Šilainiai’s “Bernelei”? A lot of police, the street is closed,” wrote one resident of Kaunas.
Another reader reported that the authorities have cordoned off a large area and are not allowing passage. According to the Kaunians, the action is taking place at Balta pr. 81.
The officer on duty of the Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat confirmed to the “What’s happening in Kaunas” portal that at 11 a.m. 50 minutes received a report of a found wartime grenade.
Due to the find, the “Shield” plan was introduced, deminers are waiting.
Residents and drivers are asked to follow the instructions of the officials, not to enter the fenced area and, if possible, choose another route. Police officers are working at the scene.
Arriving deminers of the police team “Aras” found that it was a hand grenade without an explosive and explosive material. The object was taken for investigation.
The suspected drunk (0.96 percent) man (born in 1989) was taken into custody.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the illegal possession of explosives.
