A vigorous tropical wave will affect Dominica during the next 24 hours. This is expected to result in strong, gusty winds, rough seas and areas of moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms. A Flash Flood Watch will be in effect from midnight until noon on Saturday and may be upgraded if necessary. People living in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks are advised to remain alert and take the necessary precautions. Loose objects that could become airborne in strong winds should be secured.
Rough to very rough seas are forecast tonight into Saturday, with waves increasing to peak near 8 feet along the west coast and near 13 feet along the east coast by Saturday morning. A Small Craft Warning is in effect for high winds and very rough seas until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday. Mariners should have finalized preparations. The general public is advised to stay away from beaches and areas of breaking wave action.
Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring another tropical wave in the central tropical Atlantic with a medium chance of development over the next seven days. Residents and mariners across the Lesser Antilles should continue to monitor updates from the Dominica Meteorological Service.
