With doubles from David Alfonzo and veteran Salomón Rondón, Venezuela defeated Trinidad and Tobago 4-1 in a friendly match of the FIFA Series 2026, played in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, which marked the beginning of the Oswaldo Vizcarrondo era at the helm of Vinotinto.
In the 60th minute, Alfonzo equalized the actions with Derek King’s team with an entry from the wing that surpassed the defense and put him face to face with Denzil Smith.
The young full-back equalized a score that Reon Moore had put in favor of the Trinidadians in the 52nd minute.
But Alfonzo, in the 67th minute, successfully repeated his entry from the side and scored a double that momentarily gave the Venezuelans a 2-1 lead.
Vizcarrondo’s pupils were thus imposing their rhythm on a match that was anticipated to be complex and which opened with a penalty awarded 40 seconds into the match, but which the Venezuelan Christopher Varela – author of the foul after a strong tackle against the rival attacker – managed to deflect and managed to graze the crossbar.
It was the entry of Salomón Rondón, forward of the Mexican Pachuca, that completed the offensive task of the Vinotinto, which began in disarray and advanced until it conquered the rival area.
Rondón extended the lead, in the 81st minute, by finishing off a ball with his right foot with which he advanced a good distance until he found himself face to face with Smith.
Following the same script, five minutes later, the Venezuelan international confirmed his status as the top scorer in the history of his team, by making it 4-1.
In this way, the Venezuelan team extended its statistical dominance over the Soca Warriors, now with three wins and one draw, all in international friendlies.
Venezuela will face the local Uzbekistan next Monday, while the Trinidadians have had two consecutive defeats, after losing 3-0 in a friendly against Bolivia, on March 15.
