An urban music singer filed a federal lawsuit on Monday against music producer Rafael A. Pina Nieves, better known as Raphy Pinacompany owner Pina Recordsfor alleged breach of contract.
According to the lawsuit, Juan Antonio Ortiz García, known as “Sir Speedy”alleged that Pina uses a “network of street violence and intimidation” to silence him, while at the corporate level he uses various entities to evade contractual responsibilities.
The document mentions that Pina, in addition, “appropriated the intellectual property of the plaintiff’s work by causing at least one of the plaintiff’s musical compositions to be registered in the United States Copyright Office in the name of Pina as author, completely omitting the plaintiff, even though he was co-author of the work.”
Sir Speedy also alleged that the music producer did not pay him royalties and never issued financial statements “to hide the exploitation and profits of his work.”
“Defendants continue – openly and continually – exploiting the plaintiff’s recordings and compositions through modern digital platforms, including streaming services, generating a stream of income that activates recurring obligations with the plaintiff’s work,” the measure continues.
Although the lawsuit does not offer an exact number of the money that Pina allegedly owes Ortiz García, it was mentioned that the amount exceeds $75,000.
The document includes Pina, his company, among the plaintiffs RAP Recordsbetter known as Pina Records, World Music Latino Corpanother company of the producer, an additional company that could not be identified and an additional subject who was also not identified but who allegedly participated in the alleged actions as well.
On April 1, Pina was sued for $1 million in that same court for a alleged incident aboard the yacht “Pinarazzi” which ended with the amputation of a finger.
