TOKYO: Typhoon Dolphin is expected to strengthen into a violent storm as it moves towards Japan’s remote Minami-Torishima Island, the Japan Meteorological Agency said on Wednesday.
The powerful storm, also known as Typhoon No. 13, was moving west-northwest at 15 km/h near the Marshall Islands as of 9 a.m. local time.
The agency classified Dolphin as a very strong typhoon, with a central atmospheric pressure of 955 hectopascals and maximum sustained gusts of up to 216 km/h.
Forecasters said the typhoon is expected to intensify further into a violent typhoon as it tracks towards waters near Minami-Torishima Island.
By the time it reaches the area, Dolphin is forecast to have a central atmospheric pressure of about 905 hectopascals and maximum gusts of up to 288 km/h. – Japan News/ANN
