Elite Sport Greenland and the Ski Committee of the Greenland Ski Association have entered into a two-year cooperation agreement to create better opportunities for young skiers to start participating in international competitions.
Four young Greenlandic skiers must have improved their development and their opportunities to start participating in international competitions. Elite Sport Greenland and the Ski Committee of the Ski Association have entered into a two-year agreement.
According to the agreement, the four young skiers must be developed over two winter seasons. The development of skills must take place through sessions with competition-oriented training as well as participation in international competitions in collaboration with training environments abroad.
Four youngsters must be developed
According to information from Elite Sport Greenland, the agreement includes four young skiers who are currently studying in Norway. These are Arika Magnussen, Qunaaq Jensen and Elias Nordahl-Walleuhm from Nuuk and Sasja Joelsen Henriksen from Sisimiut.
According to Elite Sport Greenland, the agreement is crucial for the skiers’ development with a view to international competitions.
– Cross-country skiing is a sport with significant requirements, such as continuous training, international competitions and access to the best possible training environments. The cross-country committee has presented their plans for the coming years, where the focus is on the talents. We at Elite Sport Greenland look forward to helping to create the framework for the collaboration, so that Greenlandic cross-country skiers can be developed as best as possible and strengthened in the international competition, writes Angutinguaq Hegelund-Tittussen, chairman of Elite Sport Greenland, in a press release.
Participation in international championships
The agreement will give Greenlandic cross-country skiers the opportunity to gain more international experience. The goal is for the so-called junior runners to qualify for the Junior WC, then the WC and the Winter Olympics.
According to the chairman of the Cross-Country Committee in the Ski Association, Flemming Enequist, the agreement is important for the development of the sport.
– We are happy to receive support from Elite Sport Greenland. The agreement improves the opportunities for talented young people to train and compete internationally, and all of this is absolutely crucial in development. The cooperation is very important so that Greenlandic skiers can have better opportunities in the future, he says.
The parties write that the agreement both now and in the future will create development opportunities for highly skilled athletes and thus raise the competitiveness of Greenlandic skiers.
