Ukraine is working to arrange a meeting with the Trump administration within a short time, says Zelensky.
Ukraine is in contact with the Trump administration and expects to set up a meeting shortly.
This is what the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, says at a press conference in connection with the EU summit in Brussels.
Here, Zelenskyj was asked whether he has received criticism from some of the EU leaders for statements about the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Several international media have written that some EU leaders believe that Zelenskyi is hurting his own case by saying that he feels “betrayed” by Trump, who has concluded a diesel agreement with Russia.
At the same time, according to Zelenskyj, the USA has turned down the speed of the important satellite network Starlink.
For a period of time, according to Zelenskyj, it has made it impossible for Ukraine to shoot down Russia’s fast jet-powered drones.
– The leaders of the EU countries have only expressed support for Ukraine, says Zelenskyj, after he met the heads of state and government of the 27 EU countries at the summit in Brussels on Friday.
He expects that the meeting with the United States will calm the situation.
– We will live and fight another day, says Zelensky.
At the press conference, the Ukrainian president avoided directly repeating or amplifying the criticism of Trump.
Even though he was confronted several times about the relationship with the President of the United States and about Trump’s recent statements that it is more difficult to talk to Zelenskyi than to Putin.
As the very last question at the press conference, Zelenskyj was asked whether he believes that Trump is currently using him as a scapegoat in an attempt to divert the eyes of the Americans from the high diesel prices in the USA and the problems with Iran shortly before the midterm elections.
Then there was a pause of almost 20 seconds, during which Zelenskyy did not say anything.
– This is my answer, the Ukrainian president then said with a smile and shrugged his shoulders a little.
