The Chairman of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, Amanmuhammet Sazakov, represented the country at the Second International Migration Review Forum under the auspices of the UN General Assembly, which is taking place from May 5–8 at UN Headquarters in New York.
As reported on the website of the Migration Service of Turkmenistan, in his speech at the plenary session of the forum, he reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s unwavering commitment to the principles of multilateral cooperation, international solidarity, and humanism, consistently implemented by the country’s leadership.
It was particularly emphasized that Turkmenistan, as a responsible member of the international community and a committed adherent to the goals and principles of the UN Charter, consistently implements the provisions of the Global Compact on Migration by incorporating its goals into national plans, legislation, and sustainable development programs. This work is being carried out through an inclusive approach and interagency collaboration through the National Coordination Mechanism.
In this context, the country’s ongoing efforts to improve its identification document system were particularly noted. Specifically, in accordance with the international standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan issues modern documents with biometric data, including identity cards and travel documents for refugees and stateless persons, as well as residence permits, all secured by a multi-layered security system.
The initiative of the President of Turkmenistan, announced at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in 2025, to create a Global Digital Integration Platform based on the principles of equality and trust, against the backdrop of the accelerated development of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence systems, was noted.
The Turkmen side confirmed its readiness to further strengthen international cooperation in the field of migration, expand the legal framework for interaction, develop digital exchange of information and experience, and participate in the implementation of international programs and initiatives in the field of sustainable development and humanitarian cooperation.
The Second International Migration Review Forum served as the primary global intergovernmental platform for discussing the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, sharing best international practices, and developing further approaches to improving international cooperation in the field of migration.
The forum was attended by high-ranking representatives of UN Member States, heads of international organizations, including the International Organization for Migration, relevant UN system agencies, as well as representatives of civil society and expert circles.
