The president of the United States, donald trumpassured this Monday that “everything will be fine” when asked about the possible return to Venezuela of the opposition leader María Corina Machado.
Trump’s statement came after Machado published an op-ed in The New York Postin which he defended his return to the country and maintained that his presence in Venezuela is necessary to accompany the citizens and advance towards a democratic transition.
When asked directly about whether he supports Machado’s return to Venezuela, the US president highlighted the opposition leader and responded: “Well, I will say one thing: she is an excellent woman. She gave me her Nobel Prize because she knew I had earned it, and she is an excellent woman, and everything is going to be fine.”.
María Corina Machado insists on returning to Venezuela after several attempts from Panama
Machado left Venezuela in December 2025 to travel to Norway, where he received the Nobel Peace Prize. Since then, as he has reported, he has tried to return to his country on several occasions by air and sea from Panama, but those attempts have not materialized.
In his article, titled “Why I should return to Venezuela and the people should vote”the opponent affirmed that her return is urgent to accompany the Venezuelan people and pressure for a democratic transition that allows citizens to exercise their right to vote.
Trump’s statement thus occurs at a time when Machado publicly maintains his intention to return to Venezuela and raises the need to move towards a democratic process in the country.
