President of the United States, Donald Trump, will pay out 5,000 dollars – a good 32,000 kroner – to all American adults, if the Republicans get a majority in both chambers of Congress for the midterm elections.
This is what Trump says in a speech to a party meeting for the Republicans in Dallas in the state of Texas.
– If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the US Senate, because of our enormous economic success, I will pay a dividend of $5,000 to every adult citizen of the United States, Trump said, according to the Reuters news agency.
– The only condition I set is that the dividend we pay out must be used in the United States, adds the president.
It is unclear how the payment should work, and whether such a payment is legal at all, write several media.
Trump is trying to rally his party, which has been hit by gloomy election forecasts ahead of the midterm elections, low voter turnout and growing discontent with the war in Iran.
This happens with an extraordinary party convention, which runs from 9 to 10 September.
According to the American news agency AP, it is the first time ever that Republicans hold a nationwide party convention before a midterm election.
