The president of the United States, Donald Trump, warned this Tuesday that “an entire civilization will die tonight, never to return,” hours before his ultimatum to Iran to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz is fulfilled.
“I don’t want that to happen, but it is likely to happen,” Trump said in a message on his Truth Social network.
The Republican stated that now that they have achieved “a complete and total regime change, where different, more intelligent and less radicalized minds prevail, perhaps something revolutionaryly wonderful can happen.”
«WHO KNOWS? We will discover it tonight, in one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the world,” repeated the president, who has set a deadline of 8:00 p.m. Washington time today (2:00 GMT on Wednesday) for Tehran to unblock the passage through the crude oil and merchandise route, interrupted in retaliation for the US-Israel war.
Otherwise, Washington will destroy bridges and power plants on Iranian territory, Trump has threatened.
The American president stated that “47 years of extortion, corruption and death will finally come to an end. “May God bless the great people of Iran!”, referring to the time that has passed since the establishment of the Islamic Republic and the beginning of the Government of the Ayatollahs in Iran.
More than a month ago, the US and Israel launched an offensive against Iran in which the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, – replaced by his son, Mojtabá Khamenei –, a large part of the Iranian military leadership and thousands of people, including women and children, died, according to NGO counts.
This Monday, the American president said he believed that Tehran was negotiating “in good faith” with his country and that “they would like to be able to reach an agreement” before the ultimatum was met, although he insisted that the Iranian peace proposal “is not good enough.”
“We have to reach an agreement that is acceptable to me and part of that agreement will include the free movement of oil (through the Strait of Hormuz),” he said at a press conference at the White House, where he insisted that if Tehran does not comply with what is required, “they will not have bridges, they will not have power plants.”
