NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman wants Pluto to be reclassified as a planet. Almost two decades have passed since the Celestials were stripped of their title.
It was in August 2006 that 2,500 astronomers from 75 countries agreed on a new definition of a planet that excluded Pluto, which was then considered the ninth planet. It was decided to revise the definition after a globe was found that was considerably further from the Sun than Pluto and was somewhat larger than the dwarf planet.

It was only in an interview with the Daily Mail reporter that Isaacman said that “Pluto should be made a planet again” and he was there to agree with Trump’s words.
Planets must meet three conditions to be considered planets:
1. Be in orbit around the sun
2. Have enough gravity to be as close as possible to a globe
3. Have removed all material in the immediate vicinity of its path
He repeated his words during a session of the United States Senate this week, where the budget for the Space Agency was discussed, which includes significant cuts according to USA Today. Republican Senator Jerry Morgan took the opportunity to question Isaacman about Pluto.
“I’m very much in favor of making Pluto a planet again,” Isaacman replied.
“We would like to reopen this discussion in the scientific community.”
Isaacman took over as head of NASA after US President Donald Trump appointed him to the post in December 2025. He is a billionaire and a keen space enthusiast who was one of the first civilian spacewalks last year.
