SAN MARINO – Strengthen the alliance between schools, families and institutions to prevent youth hardship and violence, while promoting respect for the rules and individual responsibility. This is the position expressed by DOMANI – Motus Liberi in a statement dated 26 October, which is inspired by the incidents of damage and clashes with the police that occurred during some recent demonstrations in Italy.
The movement reiterates the value of the right to demonstrate and express dissent, while underlining the need to distinguish legitimate protest from violent behavior and illicit acts. The response, according to DOMANI – Motus Liberi, should start above all from prevention and educational tools, without limiting itself to public order measures.
At the center of the proposal is the school, considered not only a place of learning, but also a space in which to develop civic sense, respect for rules, the ability to deal with different opinions and conflict management. The movement recalls that it has already proposed strengthening civic education, psychological support and emotional literacy courses.
Alongside the role of the school, the responsibility of families and adults is recalled, called to transmit to young people models of behavior consistent with the values of respect and civil coexistence.
TOMORROW – Motus Liberi also underlines the importance of offering children concrete opportunities for aggregation and growth. The proposals include more spaces for sport, study rooms and places dedicated to cultural activities, where young people can cultivate interests and strengthen their sense of belonging to the community. In this regard, the movement recalls an agenda proposed by it and approved by the Great and General Council precisely on the topic of meeting spaces.
Prevention, the statement specifies, does not exclude the need to guarantee safety and legality. Those who commit acts of violence or damage public and private property must be held accountable, while the police must be able to count on adequate staffing and training to carry out their work. The movement also reiterates its support for operators involved in protecting the safety of citizens.
The position is summarized in the need to combine prevention and firmness, considered complementary components of a security policy. The objective is to promote conscious freedom, which does not ignore individual responsibilities, and intervene on the causes of discomfort before they transform into emergencies to be addressed exclusively at the level of public order.
