After a seven-year break, Hungary is reportedly considering a return to Eurovision.
The initiative was launched by Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar, who announced that he would request to check the conditions under which Hungary could compete again.
Hungary withdrew from Eurovision after the 2019 performance.
During his recent visit to Vienna, Prime Minister Peter Magyar told the Austrian television station ORF that he will task the minister or the state secretary for culture to investigate the possibility of Hungary’s return to Eurovision, reports B92.
“There is no reason for Hungary not to participate in this competition,” said the Hungarian.
He also added that, since he took office, he has been receiving many questions about the possible return of Hungary to the Eurovision stage, reports B92.
Hungary withdrew from Eurovision after the 2019 competition. The official reason for that decision was never published, but the media and the public associated the withdrawal with the conservative policy of the government at the time and its disagreement with LGBTQ+ culture, which is often linked to Eurovision.
