The Social Security expert, Willians De Jesús Salvador, requested to carry out an exhaustive audit and a systematic evaluation of the angioplasty procedures carried out in the country, with special attention to the population affiliated with the subsidized National Health Insurance (Senasa) regime.
In a document sent to the members of the ARS Senasa, the specialist points out that it is imperative to carry out a detailed review of all records related to angioplasty procedures performed in recent years.
“I allow myself to present a formal proposal for carrying out an exhaustive audit and systematic evaluation of the angioplasty procedures carried out in the country, with special attention to the population affiliated with the subsidized National Health Insurance (Senasa) regime,” indicates the member of the team of experts in the area.
The request arises from a report published last Monday in Listín Diario about the rise of angioplasty procedures in the country, where figures offered by Sisalril and Senasa indicate that the majority of interventions are performed on patients affiliated with the subsidized health regime.
In terms of coverage, in 2025 alone, Senasa spent 2,519 million 665 thousand 808 pesos and 75 cents, with four health establishments leading the list of places with the highest number of interventions.
De Jesús Salvador said that the audit he proposes should focus on different aspects, among them, the distribution by Age Range, to identify the age demographics of the patients, which will allow a clearer understanding of the characteristics of those who require these procedures.
Also the state of cardiovascular health, to evaluate the underlying health conditions of the patients, which in his opinion is essential to determine whether the procedures are performed appropriately and justified.
Furthermore, it must encompass and analyze the socioeconomic context of the patients, which will provide a more accurate perspective on the accessibility and need for treatments in this population.
It proposes the evaluation of medical practices, understanding that it is essential to investigate the protocols implemented in the performance of these procedures, ensuring that they adhere to the best medical practices.
It indicates that if irregularities are detected, different measures must be taken, including sanctions for those responsible, and that any finding that shows malpractice must be addressed firmly, guaranteeing integrity and ethics in medical care.
Also the review of relationships with health centers, pointing out that although institutions and cardiovascular centers are recognized for their ethics, it is crucial to thoroughly investigate any indication of malpractice in their involvement with these procedures.
He points out that Senasa’s perception of its management in the previous administration requires a review of catheterizations.
“There is no need to argue or blame anyone. Therefore, it is essential to establish more robust control mechanisms that prevent the repetition of similar situations.”

In conclusion, it points out that the health of the Dominican population must be a priority and urged the competent authorities to carry out this audit and implement the necessary reforms to ensure that the medical care provided to insured patients, especially in procedures such as angioplasty and stent implantation, meets the highest standards of quality, ethics and transparency.
