The Ministry of University Education studies the implementation of new mechanisms of access to satisfy the high demand for high school graduates in the country’s study houses, according to the vice minister of the portfolio, Ricardo Ríos.
During an interview given to Unión Radio, indicated that the measure seeks to increase the availability of places, guarantee equity in the process and optimize the quality of teaching, within the framework of the goals of the National Income System.
Likewise, Ríos denied the versions about an alleged mass exclusion in the current process and denied that there are more than 200 thousand young people who have not been able enter this year to higher education.
The vice minister also detailed the technical proposals that the office evaluates to distribute the applicants in the different academic areas.
“Dialogue tables, those already existed, a lot of progress was made in several projects, what I call the basic cycle of health, another is to create knowledge nodes by scientific areas, health sciences, education and humanities, so that it is through these nodes that incorporations occur, that would greatly reduce the pressure on careers that have a lot of influence,” he noted.
In relation to the balance of the sector, the Minister of University Education, Ana María Sanjuán, confirmed that more than 200 thousand high school graduates were accepted into the National Admission System.
Likewise, he pointed out that the aim is to guarantee equity in the entry of people who need to study and ensure the quality of teaching.
Sanjuán explained that the application of these variables is essential because they “drive and mainstream the university policy of Venezuela.”
In this sense, he recalled the validity of the legal framework formed by the University Law enacted in 1946. This national legal norm was the subject of an important structural reform during the course of 1980.
During her presentation, the minister pointed out that article 20 of said law grants specific powers to the National Council of Universities. He specified that the regulations establish that the organization “must define the country’s vocational training goals.”
Likewise, he indicated that the legislation requires setting the initial number of first-year students at the beginning of the process.
