The government of Venezuela confirmed this Sunday the participation of the acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, in the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization (UN), held in New York, United States. During her stay in the United States, the official plans to meet with President Donald Trump on Tuesday.
The last visit by a Venezuelan head of state to this instance was that of Nicolás Maduro in 2018. The former ruler is currently detained in a prison a few kilometers from the UN headquarters, after being captured by US forces last January in Caracas, Venezuela, during the execution of a military operation.

For its part, The White House announced on Friday that Trump and Rodríguez will meet on Tuesday in New Yorkon the margins of the UN General Assembly, which will represent the first formal meeting between both leaders.
This will also be the first meeting between a US president and a Venezuelan leader in more than 11 years, since the brief meeting between Barack Obama and Maduro during the 2015 Summit of the Americas, held in Panama.
