On the 27th anniversary of the Massacre in Studime, state and political actors paid tribute to the Albanians who were killed.
The acting president, Albulena Haxhiu, participated in the Memorial Academy on this anniversary, where she said that even today Serbia harbors war criminals. She gave support to the family members, telling them that the state will be by their side.
“We will be by your side in the collection of evidence, in the prosecutor’s office, in the court, in the archive, in public memory, in school and in diplomacy. I also feel this responsibility deeply, in the task I hold today, and I promise that the Study will not only remain in the memory of the families, but also in the daily work of the institutions, including the justice institutions, so that the war criminals do not remain unpunished. Because the Study, in addition to the pain of the family members, is part of history of the Republic of Kosovo”, said Haxhiu.
She further said that innocent people were killed because they were Albanians and because Serbia wanted a Kosovo without Albanians, adding that today we live in the Republic of Kosovo because that project has failed.
“Today, on the 27th anniversary of the Studime massacre, with humility and respect we remember the 116 civilians killed on May 2, 1999. We remember the martyrs of Nabërgjan. We remember the men and sons of Bukoshi. We remember all those killed, forcibly disappeared, deported, survivors, prisoners and tortured of the last war in Kosovo. We remember them because they are the foundation of our freedom. We honor them because our Republic was built on their sacrifice. And we ask for justice because without it, the memory remains incomplete, the family members remain burdened, and peace remains truncated,” said Haxhiu.
