The decision to check the pollution did not work?
According to L. Jonauskas, the decision taken by the previous Government did not work, but only burdened environmentalists with redundant functions.
It is clear that although the streets are full of smoking cars, the raids have not solved the problem.
“Today, we have a fully functioning car inspection system, so there is no reason for environmentalists to additionally duplicate the functions of the police and the Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration.
As shown by road raids carried out by environmentalists, out of almost 871 cars stopped for inspection, only 1 case was confirmed when the emission of pollution was exceeded. Officers’ time spent on roads stopping car drivers will now be able to be spent on environmental control in forests, near water bodies, polluting companies, where they are most needed,” says L. Jonauskas.
Environmentalists still have the right to continue to inspect passenger buses and trucks for pollution.
In order to carry out even more effective control of road transport emissions into the environment, the Government in 2027 plans to complete the development of a remote monitoring system for car pollution in the fourth quarter.
