Nairobi (Kenya), June 18, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic participates with an important delegation in the second summit of the Forum of Chief Justices of African Supreme Courts on Alternative Dispute Resolution, which is being held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, on June 18 and 19, at the invitation of the Kenyan Chief Justice, Judge Martha Karambo Kumi.
The summit represents an opportunity to build on the Kampala decisions, exchange new experiences in settling disputes by alternative means, and consolidate the status of these mechanisms as a supporter of sustainable development and facilitating access to justice on the African continent.
The summit comes as a continuation of the first summit hosted by Kampala (Uganda) on March 5 and 6, 2024, from which Recommendation No. 16 was issued calling for the establishment of a forum for African heads of supreme courts on alternative means of resolving disputes.
In light of this recommendation, the African Chief Justices Forum for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ACJADRF) was established, which brings together the chief justices of the supreme courts, which is the highest judicial authority in each country and guarantees the supremacy of the constitution, adjudication of disputes related to presidential elections, unification of judicial jurisprudence, and reviewing the constitutionality of laws and protection of fundamental rights from various African countries, with the aim of restructuring the justice system on the continent.
The Forum seeks to strengthen alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, support effective and accessible justice systems that put people at the center of their attention, and facilitate integration between formal and informal justice systems, in service of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 aimed at sustainable development, peace and prosperity in Africa. The forum also provides a space for exchanging experiences and best practices among its members, and a platform for keeping up with all developments in this field.
The Sahrawi Republic is represented in the forum by Abiy Slahi, official of international relations at the Sahrawi Constitutional Council, along with our country’s ambassador to Kenya, Mohamed Limam Mohamed Ali Sayed Al-Bashir. (SPS)
