“From destination to meaning: spiritual tourism today”
SAN MARINO – This morning, 3 June 2026, at the Titano Theater of the Republic of San Marino, the International Forum on Walking and Pilgrimage Tourism “From the destination to the meaning: spiritual tourism today” took place, promoted by the Secretariat of State for Tourism of the Republic of San Marino in collaboration with the Diocese of San Marino-Montefeltro.
The initiative, organized in the week dedicated to the celebrations of San Quirino and Corpus Domini, presents itself as a harbinger of an important opportunity for discussion on the contemporary value of walks and pilgrimages, today increasingly recognized as tools for personal growth, territorial valorization, sustainability and authentic promotion of territories, as well as a significant driving force for the economy and promotion of the country.
Among the key moments of the event included in the program planned for the celebrations of the eight hundredth anniversary of the death of Saint Francis, the lectio magistralis of H.E. Mons. Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, entitled “Religious tourism, contemplation of beauty”, during which a reflection was proposed on the profound meaning of the spiritual journey as an opportunity for meeting, dialogue and rediscovery of the cultural and human identity of places.
The corollary of scheduled activities continued with a round table, composed of authoritative guests from the institutional, cultural, editorial and associative world.
Among the speakers present: Davide Rondoni, philosopher, writer and President of the National Committee for the Celebrations of the Eighth Centenary of the Death of Saint Francis of Assisi; Miriam Giovanzana from Terre di Mezzo, who presented the volume “Il Paese dei Cammini”; Monica Valeri, Religious Tourism Project Leader of APT Emilia-Romagna; Francesco Boggi, co-founder of the Cammini d’Italia community; Raffaella Rossi, Director Saint Francis Way; Massimo Feruzzi, Advisor of the Secretariat of State for Tourism; Fabrizio Leggio, Councilor for Tourism of the Municipality of Assisi.
The meeting was moderated by Rai journalist Eva Crosetta, presenter of the program “On the Road to Damascus”. “The country intends to invest more and more in a tourist offer capable of combining spirituality, authenticity and valorisation of the territory – said the Secretary of Tourism Federico Pedini Amati – in the wake of a path undertaken some time ago, aimed at strengthening the identity of San Marino as a destination of quality and meaning”.
