The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade responded to the allegations of the former President of Serbia, Boris Tadić, on the social network X.
Responding to announcements that interviews should be held with those who publicly claimed that a “sound cannon” was used against protest participants, Tadić called on the prosecution to start with him.
“The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade strongly resents the inappropriate statements and comments on the work and actions of this prosecutor’s office that politician Boris Tadić made in public without any basis in order to mislead citizens and continue to spread false information regarding the simulated use of a sound cannon, that is, as he says, “some sonic weapon”, it is stated in announcement of the Prosecutor’s Office.
And he adds that in addition, Tadić exerted undue influence by threatening the acting public prosecutor with arrest in the future.
“The VJT in Belgrade points out that it does not threaten to prosecute citizens and students, as Tadić insinuates in his comments, but has announced that in accordance with the law and the evidence gathered, all those who have committed a criminal offense prosecuted ex officio will be prosecuted, specifically all those who are found to have prepared, organized, implemented and then spread in the media and on social networks the same narrative about the alleged use of a “sound cannon”, they state in the VJT.
According to the information in the press release, VJT in Belgrade emphasizes that the participants of the protest, who were abused by the above-mentioned, responsible persons, will not be prosecuted.
“We repeat that the VJT in Belgrade acts exclusively on the basis of the Constitution, the law and its legal powers, and not according to the wishes of any group or individual, and makes its decisions on the basis of collected evidence, not on the basis of claims made in the public space. Due to the threats and inappropriate comments that represent undue influence and pressure on the actions and independence of the public prosecution, the VJT in Belgrade will turn to the High Council of Prosecutions and request an immediate reaction and condemnation of the narrative used by politician Boris Boris Tadic”, the announcement concludes.
