The Andorran Health Care Service (SAAS) has incorporated the Clinical Laboratory of the Hospital Nostra Senyora de Meritxell new automated analyzers of molecular biology that will allow 98% of PCR tests to be carried out of microbiology that until now were sent outside Andorra.
The incorporation of the new devices will allow reduce patient waiting times. According to SAAS, complex diagnostic processes that could take up to a week due to cross-border logistics will now deliver results final within 24 to 48 working hours.
Carrying out these tests in the country will also entail, according to the statement, a reduction of operating costs for public healthas the costs of urgent transport and the fees of external laboratories will be eliminated.
The new parsers will also allow expand the catalog of available tests in the laboratory and detect a greater variety of pathogens, viruses and bacteria from the Principality itself. Examples cited by the SAAS include the coronavirus, the virus responsible for mumps, different herpes viruses and up to seven infectious agents linked to sexually transmitted diseases.
