The Mayor of Sector 4, Daniel Băluță, announced on Monday, May 25, that the extension of the Tudor Arghezi Park in Bucharest will be named “Donald Trump“, following an online vote organized by the local government. The result, however, has sparked political controversy and allegations of irregularities in the voting process.
The result of the online consultation and the decision of the local administration
In the message published on FacebookDaniel Băluță specified that more than 116,000 people participated in the voting process, which concerned both the expansion of the Tudor Arghezi Park and the name of the ice rink Berceni Arena. Following the centralization of the options, the local administration decided that the new name of the park should be “Donald Trump”, and the rink should receive the name of Doru Tureanu, considered an important figure of Romanian hockey.
“Thank you to all the more than 116,000 people who voted, in the last few days, for the name of the extension of Tudor Arghezi Park and the Berceni Arena ice rink! As the people decided, the new part of the park will be named “Donald Trump”, and the ice rink will bear the name of Doru Tureanu, a legend of Romanian hockey, recognized worldwide.
In the coming days, we will also take the necessary steps for your decision to be implemented”, wrote Daniel Băluță on Facebook.
The “Donald Trump” option accumulated more votes than the proposal that the park be named after the president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sanduaccording to the information publicly communicated by the local administration.
Political backlash and allegations of online vote fraud
The decision was criticized by opposition representatives, who raised questions about the fairness of the consultation process. The local councillor USR from Sector 4, Paul Ene, claimed that the voting platform would have been vulnerable and that the results did not reflect the reality on the ground. USR made public allegations of online voting fraud, citing significant differences between interim data and final results.
Paul Ene stated, appropriately Antenna 3 CNN: “Man can’t stop stealing even when it comes to an online vote. Băluță got angry that the world is taking him for granted because he is putting himself in front of the MAGA administration and launched a facade consultation, to show that we are haters, and the world, in reality, is fed up with having a little Donald Trump in front of Selgros Metalurgia.
He was very surprised when he saw, after the first day of voting, that the people really weren’t agreement with his proposal. So he did what any pesedist knows how to do best. He stole votes.
Although by Saturday evening approximately 30 thousand votes were registered, by Sunday morning there were already 70 thousand. I’m sure that, on Saturday night, people couldn’t have a peaceful time without Baluță’s strip of park bearing Trump’s name”.
He also claimed that the platform used for the consultation had technical and security problems, stating: “The voting platform itself is a joke, as is its security. Most web filtering systems did not allow access to it, and in the first five days of voting you could vote with addresses that did not even exist. In fact, several people reported that they could not vote, because the system told them that the address had already voted.
Mr. Băluță, I understand that you no longer have any contact with reality and with the community you manage, so I give you a piece of advice: leave the park and the ice rink with their current names and go on vacation. From 2028 you will have all the time to play with your geostrategic importance”.
