Referring to the most vulnerable group of traffic users, according to the online economy report, quoted by Tasnim, Col. Rabieh Mebanakht, head of the Greater Tehran Traffic Police Online Center, said: According to the Traffic Regulations, a pedestrian is a non-rider person who moves without using any motorized vehicle, and this group is always the most injured in accidents due to the lack of physical protection.
Citing the accident statistics of 1404, he explained: Last year, the share of pedestrians in fatal accidents in the capital was 37% of the total deaths, which ranks second after motorcyclists. Unfortunately, people 65 years and older with 35% are the record age of these deceased.
Describing the accident-prone places, Mr. Zabanakhet said: Tehran’s highways with a frequency of 54%, main streets with 39% and other roads with 7% were the places where pedestrian accidents occurred. He also mentioned the problem of visibility and added: when a passerby has dark clothing, the driver sees him from 150 meters away; But if the coverage is clear, this distance reaches 300 meters. Unfortunately, during the hours of 20 to 24 (with 30% frequency), we have neither sunlight nor timely diagnosis by the driver.
The head of the online center of the Greater Tehran Traffic Police warned about the elderly: the traffic of this group in the early hours of the day, not using overpasses or sidewalks, doubles the risk. We ask the elderly to travel in safe places.
In another section, referring to article 194 of the regulations, the party emphasized: wheeled vehicles such as skates and scooters are only for recreational use and are only allowed to travel in certain places. Families should not allow their children to use these devices on highways and main roads.
Referring to the beginning of the month of Muharram, he advised the mourners: due to the darkness during these days, be sure to drive in well-lit areas and in the driver’s direct line of sight so as not to have an accident. Also, avoid crossing the street and highways separately.
