Martyr Al-Hafiz, June 8, 2026 (SPS) – The Media Archive headquarters is hosting a training course in the field of archiving, documentation and digitization.
The training course, which is held on the sidelines of the celebration of World Archives Day, June 9, is organized by members of the Algerian National Archives in cooperation with the Sahrawi National Archives.
The course continues over the course of a week, according to the organizers, and will conclude on Wednesday in the presence of the director of the Algerian archives and some of the authorities of the Algerian province of Tindouf, which was chosen this year to host the activities of the week of celebration of the event, according to the source.
As a reminder, World Archives Day is an international occasion approved by the International Council on Archives (ICA) in 2007 to enhance awareness of the importance of archives in preserving human memory, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting the values of transparency and administrative accountability in institutions.
The date of June 9 was specifically chosen to commemorate the founding of the International Council on Archives under the auspices of UNESCO in 1948.
This day aims primarily to: highlight the role of archives as “the memory of communities.”
Supporting the work of archivists and enhancing the status of this profession, in addition to encouraging institutions and governments to document and organize their national history to facilitate access to it for future generations, and discussing the challenges facing archives in light of digital transformation.
On this occasion, many events are organized around the world, such as seminars, conferences, and documentary exhibitions. Official institutions – such as the national archives in countries – also hold weeks dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of national documents and manuscripts. (SPA)
