Prices continue to skyrocket with a notable rise in April. The estimated year-on-year variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) last month stands at 4.9%according to the advanced indicator calculation published today by Statistics. This data assumes that prices are climbing eight tenths above the rate recorded in Marchwhich was from 4.1%
Statistics attribute the increase in inflation to the rise in fuel prices, and in addition to the “Transport” group, to a lesser extent, it has also contributed to the increase “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” group. The evolution of group prices “Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels” and “Miscellaneous goods and services” have had a moderating effect on inflation to partially contain the general increase in prices, Estadística points out.
The figure for April 2026 is more than double that of same month last year, when the CPI closed at 2.2%and also exceeds that of April 2024 which was 3.9%, the report states.
