The biggest defeat is not on the field: Who are the people who brought Buducnost to the bottom and what is the address where they should answer?

It is not known what was sadder on Saturday at the stadium under Gorica, the home of the biggest and most trophy-winning Montenegrin club.

Is it what happened on the field in the match against Mladost, or the scene from the stands – from the ceremonial box, where only one man, with his head down, watches another collapse of the most expensive team in the history of Montenegrin football.

These are two pictures of today’s Future.

Weakness in the game that cannot be remembered even in the last 20 years. And, on the other hand, the recklessness of those who sit in the armchairs of the Board of Directors – so pronounced that they cannot spare even an afternoon to come to the stadium and see the result of their own decisions. Even if they lower their heads.

Football players and coaching staff do not have that opportunity. They are exposed – to every view, to every criticism. Regardless of the fact that few people really care about what they do on the field.

It seems that there are many more who are interested in how much they are paid, that is, who enabled them to monetize their modest football knowledge, even by our standards, so well. From public money.

And it was made possible by those who are not in the stadium. Those who meet behind closed doors, convinced that they are leaders, managers, connoisseurs of football, the football market, finance, marketing…

Their names are: Boris Spalević, Ninoslav Kaluđerović, Mileta Šćepanović, Fedja Smatlik, Nikola Marković and Dusan Globarević. There is also a member of the Management Board Emin Isićrepresentative of the Barbarians, clearly opposed to any decision.

The executive director was replaced, but he remained sporty, Nenad Maslovar.

They do all this with – public money. Money that, at least in the recent history of the club, has never been this abundant.

Estimates say that more than five million euros have been invested in the last eight months, of which two million are directly from the city budget for 2026.

The result of such sports management is devastating – Bubućnost is three points away from the barrage zone for survival.

And the “knowledge” about football and processes was especially visible in January, when it was allowed to bring as many as 11 players. A precedent in the sporting sense, but also a move that now casts doubt on the reasons for which it was done – because as time goes by, there are fewer and fewer January “reinforcements” who apply for the first team at all.

In the managerial part, the consequences of their management are debts to the players (although the salaries are so high that a delay of a month or two will not affect their quality of life), torture to obtain a European license, which, admittedly, will probably not even be needed…

The same managerial framework includes decisions on hiring and firing coaches, appointing the executive and sports director, determining the height and duration of contracts for players who were brought in in January.

And when it is already obvious that the Future is cracking at all levels, it is logical to ask a few questions:

Has at least one good thing been done since last August?

    Was any correct decision made?

Has the work of the Board of Directors – composed of party cadres and people related to city leaders – ever been seriously reviewed?

Is even a single euro of public money invested in the club justified?

Has anyone asked where that money went? Who are the players who were brought in, who recommended them and according to what criteria, and why are they not playing today?

And finally – should any municipal company have these results and this attitude towards public money?

Will the members of the Board of Directors, who, apart from political coalitions and family ties, also hold the view that the problems of Montenegrin football reside in the building of the Football Association at the Old Airport, will continue to deal with this work in the future, i.e. will the fate of Budućnost be in their hands even after this season?

But who is the address for answers to these questions. There is none, because it is obvious that the Future is, for the umpteenth time – the exclusive (multi)party prey, a status symbol of those who rule, who like to be important, smarter than others, above responsibility.

The future with people who rule from the “shadow” not only loses games – after all, defeats are part of sport – but also loses its meaning. And that is the biggest defeat.

And there is no strategic partner who can change that, as long as they, or any other party-appointed personnel and municipal officials, think they belong to the football world.
