The Council of Shia Ulemas of Afghanistan announced that after stopping the broadcasts of Tamdan TV, the Taliban have also blocked the seminary and Jama Mosque of Khatam al-Nabiin (PBUH). This action, which coincides with the days of Tasu’a and Ashura Hosseini, has aroused widespread concerns among the Shia community.
The Council of Shia Ulemas of Afghanistan published a statement on Thursday, at the same time as the 9th of Muharram-ul-Haram (Tasuai Hosseini), and announced that the Ministry of Justice of the Taliban government has also blocked the Khatam-ul-Nabieen seminary and the Khatam-ul-Nabieen mosque after stopping the activities of Tamdan TV.
According to this statement, the Taliban stated that the reason for this action was “usurpation of ownership” of the Khatam-ul-Nabieen seminary; An issue that has faced widespread reaction and concern among Afghan Shiites.
In its statement, the Shia Ulema Council of Afghanistan also mentioned the collection of flags and symbols of mourning from some mosques and Hosseiniyyas, the arrest of a number of officials of mosques and takayas for raising symbols of mourning, and the suspension of Tamadan TV broadcasts on the eve of Hosseini’s Ashura as other recent restrictions.
This council has emphasized that these actions are contrary to the understandings and decisions of the Emirati committee responsible for holding the Muharram ceremony and have caused widespread concern among the Afghan Shia community.
The Council of Shia Ulemas of Afghanistan, while requesting the immediate reopening of the Khatam-ul-Nabieen seminary and the resumption of the activity of Tamdan TV, has announced that it will discuss the matter with the leader of the Taliban government and other senior officials after the Ashura ceremony.
In this statement, scholars, khutba and preachers are also asked to emphasize on preserving unity, observing public order and pursuing demands through official channels while informing people about the current situation.
The Council of Shia Ulemas of Afghanistan has expressed hope that with the planning of the officials of the Taliban government, the existing concerns will be resolved and the atmosphere of trust, peace and national solidarity will be strengthened.
