The 12th Criminal Chamber of the Luxembourg District Court has sentenced five police officers from the former Luxembourg train station to prison terms of two and three years and fines of 5,000 and 2,000 euros. Some of the sentences are suspended, some completely, some partially.
A 36-year-old officer was found guilty of, among other things, beating a man in a cell at CR3 station. Four others were convicted for covering for him. On the evening of May 20, 2023, Tom D. punched the man several times in the face and ribs. The victim was injured in the eye and ribs. Two weeks of incapacity to work followed.
A young officer who was present at the time of the crime was commissioned by his superior to write an operational report for the benefit of the police officers. The young officer reported the incidents, exposing the guard’s questionable methods, including violence and humiliation toward new recruits and detainees.
Some of these cases were heard in two additional correctional proceedings. The superior was acquitted in the first case and sentenced to 24 months in prison with full probation and a fine of 2,000 euros in the other. The same goes for another police officer. Tom D. was acquitted in the secondary proceedings. A police officer involved in the criminal proceedings received an additional six months in prison with full probation and a fine of 1,000 euros.
