The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 am in a section of reduced visibility, when the license plate bus B6V-956 that covered the route Puno-Tacna hit the unit of the Sama company, plate X4A-715. Among the fatalities, a 12-year-old minor was identified, while three of the bodies were found outside the vehicles due to the violence of the crash. Firefighters and SAMU personnel went to the area to rescue the survivors.

The accident took place specifically at kilometer 1,292 of the Panamericana Sur Highway, on an entrance curve to the sector known as Campo de la Alianza. According to local reports, the area was covered by dense fog that significantly reduced drivers’ vision at that time of day.

The injured were evacuated to the Hipólito Unanue Hospital of Tacna. The director of the hospital, Eddy Vicente Choque, reported that most of the patients have multiple contusions, although one of them remains in critical condition after undergoing surgery. Among the injured are four minors and the driver of the Copacabana bus, Faustino Chambe.
Prosecutor William Mamani took over the procedures to remove the bodies and transfer them to the region’s central morgue. At the scene, vehicular traffic was restricted while experts from the Traffic Accident Prevention and Investigation Unit collected evidence. The victims’ relatives remain in the hospital awaiting official information.
This sector of the national highway has been the scene of other fatal incidents, including the death of a taxi driver that occurred 24 hours ago in the same kilometer.
