A 60-year-old woman was robbed of her licensed firearm, cash, and personal belongings during a violent daylight attack at a pharmacy in Westmoorings on Tuesday.
Police said the victim was about to get into her MG HS vehicle, parked on the compound of SuperPharm Pharmacy around 1 p.m., when two men approached and robbed her of her handbag.
The bag contained personal items, including her firearm user’s licence, a Smith and Wesson .38 revolver loaded with six rounds of ammunition, $5,000 in cash, and a car key fob.
During the incident, one of the suspects pushed the woman to the ground, causing her to sustain injuries before the men fled in the direction of a nearby fast-food outlet.
The suspects were described as men of African descent. One was of brown complexion, about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a slim build and low haircut, wearing a blue jersey and dark-coloured pants. The other was of darker complexion, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, slim-built, and dressed in dark clothing.
Following the robbery, officers of the Four Roads Criminal Investigations Department launched an intelligence-led anti-crime exercise between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesday as part of Operation Steady G.U.A.R.D.
The exercise, conducted across the Western and Port of Spain Divisions, led officers to Simeon Road, Petit Valley, where the victim’s handbag and personal items were recovered.
Two women, aged 33 and 23, were arrested in connection with the investigation.
Officers also carried out an extensive search at an abandoned house along Pitch Road, Laventille, where the stolen revolver and ammunition were recovered. No arrests were made at that location.
