The over 300-year-old Stradivarius violin “Lauterbach” is believed to have been rediscovered. The first clue came from a local newspaper where violinist Emmanuel Coppey was reported to have played several old violins – one of which is believed to be a masterpiece by instrument maker Stradivari.
The violin is one of nine that Stradivari made in 1719 – during his so-called golden age.
According to the French newspaper Le Parisien, which reviewed the case, the instrument was stolen by the Nazis from a museum in Warsaw at the end of the war in 1944.
The violin has a value equivalent to almost 93 million kronor and was last seen in France in the early 1990s.
