As the Kaunas municipality announces in a press release, the program dedicated to the coronation day of Lithuanian King Mindaugas will begin in the city at the beginning of next week.
Poems by Lithuanian poets, folk and contemporary music, community collectives and well-known national performers will perform in Kaunas parks and library spaces. Among them is the musician Saulius Petreikis, whose performance will invite you to embark on a musical journey that combines the traditions of Baltic culture and modern interpretations of sounds.
The main festive events will be held at the entrances of Kaunas Castle and in the garden of the Vytautas the Great War Museum.
At noon on July 6th, the ceremony of raising the flag of the Order of the Cross of Vytis and a carillon music concert will take place here. On that day, citizens of Kaunas and guests of the city will be given the opportunity to visit some of the city’s museums and places for free, allowing you to rediscover the history of Kaunas.
In the evening, the participants of the festival will traditionally gather in the courtyard of Kaunas Castle. The gala concert “25 years at the castle” will be played here, which has become an inseparable tradition of the State Day in Kaunas.
The program of classical music and the historic backdrop of the castle brings together thousands of spectators every year, culminating in the simultaneous singing of the National Anthem around the world at 9 p.m.
After that, the Kaunas City Municipality will honor people who deserve the city and the state. Awards will be presented for significant works, promotion of the name of Kaunas and merits for the Republic of Lithuania.
All events included in the program are free.
“State Day reminds us that a strong state begins with each of us who create it every day. I invite all Kaunas to spend this day together – celebrating, remembering the history of our state and city, and fostering togetherness.”
The national anthem, played every year in the courtyard of Kaunas Castle, is one of the most beautiful symbols of our unity,” Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis said in a press release issued by Kaunas Municipality.
Participants of the festival are invited to use public transport, which is free on July 6.
