Taipei, Republic of China (Taiwan), 13 April 2026 (Embassy of Saint Christopher (Saint Kitts) and Nevis): Strengthening cultural diplomacy remained at the centre of discussions on Friday, April 10, 2026, when His Excellency Donya L. Francis, Ambassador of Saint Kitts and Nevis to Taiwan, paid a courtesy call on Director General Chen Chia-Chun of the Taichung City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau.
During the meeting, both sides explored avenues for deepening cultural cooperation between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Taichung City, with particular emphasis on potential participation in the Taichung Jazz Festival and the Taichung International Instrumental Festival, traditionally staged each October. The discussion also highlighted the continued presence of Caribbean musical influence in Taiwan, including the Formosa Pandaz Steel Orchestra, led by Kittitian Stephen Richards, which featured at last year’s Instrumental Festival.
Ambassador Francis conveyed his appreciation to the Taichung City Government for its sustained commitment to cultural exchange and partnership. He also acknowledged the longstanding invitations extended by Mayor Lu to attend the Taichung Jazz Festival, expressing optimism about returning this year, especially should Kittitian and Nevisian musical talent be included in the programme.
Acknowledgment was also extended by Director General Chen, who thanked Ambassador Francis for his continued support of Taichung’s cultural initiatives, including his regular attendance at the Jazz Festival and the Embassy’s donation of books to the Taichung Public Library.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited the Taichung Green Museumbrary, a newly established landmark that integrates an art museum and public library within an expansive urban park and officially opened in December 2025. The tour included an art exhibition as well as the library’s facilities, which feature a collection of six books donated by the Embassy in April 2025, all authored by writers from Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Library Director Tseng Hui-chun noted that the Saint Kitts and Nevis publications have proven especially popular among visitors, with strong interest from younger readers.
