PARAMARIBO — Under the theme ‘The road to sustainable energy and energy security through investment in solar energy for the future of Suriname’, a so-called ‘strategic round table discussion’ will take place on Friday (tomorrow) in the Conference Hall about the future of energy supply in Suriname through solar energy. According to the President’s Office, the meeting should provide concrete action points as a basis for an Energy Action Memo, the formation of a Solar-Energy Task Force and the further development of a National Energy Roadmap 2026-2035.
President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons will open the roundtable, which brings together decision makers, experts, companies, investors, financial institutions and strategic partners. The focus will be on the expansion of large-scale solar energy projects and solar energy systems on the roofs of households and companies. Hybrid systems, which allow necessary equipment to continue functioning in the event of a power outage, will also receive attention, the government reports.
The participants will discuss the current state of the sector and the necessary preconditions, concrete projects and financing options, possible cooperation and joint ventures. Special attention is paid to active participation of local companies and cooperation with foreign investors.
