A Trinidad and Tobago student pursuing studies at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Global Campus has been selected as the recipient of the Sinnette-Nguyen Scholarship for the 2025–2026 academic year.
According to a UWI Global Campus press release, Yamine Trotman, a Bachelor of Science in Social Work student, was chosen following a competitive selection process that recognized both academic excellence and community engagement. The scholarship is reserved for nationals of Trinidad and Tobago enrolled in undergraduate programmes at the Global Campus who have demonstrated strong academic performance alongside meaningful contributions to their communities.
The school said that Trotman has earned recognition for her leadership and service initiatives, particularly through the establishment of Healed Me, Healing You Ministry, a philanthropic organization dedicated to providing mental health support to women. She also serves in student leadership as Vice President for Programming and Voluntarism within The UWI Student Today Alumni Tomorrow (STAT) Global Campus Corps.

The scholarship was reportedly established by Massachusetts-based donor Tisha Sinnette-Nguyen in honour of her parents, Nelson Sinnette and Yvonne Sinnette.
Explaining the motivation behind the award, she stated, “This scholarship is funded in loving memory of my parents, Nelson Sinnette and Yvonne Sinnette, who placed a high value on education and its power to transform lives. It is both an honour and a privilege to continue their legacy by awarding this scholarship to a deserving recipient who reflects their values—demonstrating grit, perseverance, and resilience in the face of challenges.”
The UWI Global Campus expressed appreciation for Sinnette-Nguyen’s contribution, noting that her support continues to create opportunities for deserving students in Trinidad and Tobago and helps expand access to higher education.
Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal Dr. Francis O. Severin also praised Trotman’s accomplishments and community-focused work, saying, “Ms. Yamine Trotman needs to be celebrated, and I am grateful to Mrs. Tisha Sinnette-Nguyen, a good friend of the Global Campus, for recognising Yamine in that regard. Others can learn so much from our deserving student in terms of her public activism, community spirit and good ‘citizenship’ in being the ‘originator’ of a philanthropic organisation that offers mental health support to women. This is commendable, and the urgent need for such interventions cannot be underestimated. I wish her absolute success as she strives to be the best social worker that she can be.”
The press release noted that Trotman’s achievements, commitment to service, and future aspirations closely align with the goals of the scholarship programme. The UWI Global Campus extended its congratulations to the scholarship recipient and wished her continued success throughout her studies and future career.
