Slobodna Dalmacija – The beaches are empty, but overflowing

Even though at the beginning of June, many beaches in Postiri are still far from the scene expected in the heart of the tourist season, there is no concern among restaurateurs. The sea is still quite cold, the weather changeable, but the first impressions from the field show that there is no reason for pessimism.

By Branimir Perković The state has always been the most popular employer in Croatia. Young people are also aware of this, so when asked about where they want to get a job, they answer that it is the public sector much more often than their colleagues from Europe. They cannot be blamed, because it is a financially logical answer considering that employees in the public sector in Croatia have higher salaries than in the private sector when adjusted for seniority, education, number of working hours… But the assessment itself…

    – We just opened a few days ago, but it seems to me that there are slightly more guests than last year at the same time. We expect a good sixth month because school ends ten days earlier this year, so local guests will come sooner – he says Luka Lukićowner of Beach Bar Trstena.

Lukić believes that this year’s World Championship, which is being held in the United States of America, could help this season.

    – I think that part of the guests who would normally travel to the World Cup this year will still choose closer locations. We especially count on German guests, who are traditionally the most numerous and important to us – he says.

He adds that so far the guests complain the most about the temperature of the sea and the unstable weather.

    – The beaches are still quite empty, but that is normal for the pre-season. Considering the unstable weather, it seems to me that at the end of the fifth month there were even more guests than now – says Lukić.

Optimism does not hide either Ivan Jelinčićthe owner of Beach Bar Mala Lozna, who opened the doors of his establishment a few days ago.

    – We opened three days ago and in terms of percentage it is much better than before. If only the weather would serve us and this could be one of the better seasons. It is normal for this date in Postiri that the beaches are not full, it was never different at the beginning of June. In previous years, we used to open later, and the place would be quite empty for a long time after that, so for now we can’t complain – says Jelinčić.

He believes that there are reasons for optimism Josip Kuščevićthe owner of the Incognito bar.

    – The pre-season, and especially May, were extremely good. The weather slightly disrupted the beginning of June, but compared to several previous seasons, we are recording a slight growth, about 20 percent more than last year.

He believes that the cold sea is currently the biggest reason why some of the guests spend less time on the beaches, which is why, he says, additional facilities should be developed for days when the weather conditions are not ideal. He believes that the current geopolitical situation should not have a negative impact on Croatian tourism because Croatia is well connected by transport and is attractive as a car destination. He considers the early end of the school year and a large number of permanent domestic guests from continental Croatia who regularly return to Postira, as well as to Incognito Bar, to be positive factors.

While restaurateurs monitor the traffic, many foreign guests point out that it is during this period that they like to come the most because of the peace and smaller crowds.

    – For me, this period is the most beautiful precisely because there are not so many guests and everything is calmer. I have been coming for years and I would say that now there are even more people than a few years ago at the same time – he says Hendrik from Germany.

He also agrees with him Lena from Austria.

    – The fact that there are not many people is a big advantage for me. My boyfriend and I have always traveled in the pre-season or post-season in recent years. The only minus is the unstable weather, but that doesn’t bother us too much – he says.

Ales he arrived on Brač from Slovakia with his family.

    – We are more than satisfied. Peace, sun and natural beauty are all we need. It suits us much better when there are no big crowds, especially on the roads – he says.

He believes that the season will most likely be within the framework of last year Mladen Matulićowner of the Bracera restaurant.

    – First impressions are that the season will be standard, neither better nor worse than the previous ones. For now, everything looks quite normal – concludes Matulić.

Although the scenes from certain beaches in Brac do not yet give the impression of typical summer scenes, those who make a living from tourism say that there is no reason for concern at the beginning of June. Guests are slowly arriving, and most interviewees believe that the real rhythm of summer will be felt already during the second half of the month.
