Seven Dominican students, through the Chinese Government Program, have received full scholarships to further their education at Chinese Universities.
They are Tiago Alishaw, Clint Iverson Lecointe, Michaela Warrington, Ayana Nakita Jordanne Augustine, Abigail Hannah Daniel, Nicquan Kern Richards and Jeriah Makeya Ovesen.
“Because it’s with great pride and deep gratitude that I stand here to formally accept, with you, seven scholarships from the government of the People’s Republic of China on behalf of the people and government of the Commonwealth of Dominica,” Education Minister Octavia Alfred said during a ceremony held at the Chinese Embassy in Morne Daniel on Wednesday.
She continued, “Today, three of our Dominica sons and four daughters will take the next step on a journey that will not only change these young people’s lives, but it will change the future of our nation.”
According to Alfred, education is the greatest investment any nation can make.
“And today, this investment is being made directly in our greatest resource, our young people,” noted Alfred.
She thanked the Government of the People’s Republic of China for their support.
“This is more than aid. This is more than help. This is more than just a relationship,” she stated. “This is trust. Trust in our youth, trust in our potential, trust in the friendship between the Commonwealth of Dominica and the People’s Republic of China that continues to grow stronger and stronger each year.”
