Police officers were fired upon after a stolen vehicle was spotted in a bushy area in Princes Town on Sunday.
The Nissan Carvan was report stolen about an hour earlier. The officers went to the bushy and gravel area at Buen Intento, Princes Town and checked on the van. There was no one inside. They then saw a wooden structure and, while clearing it, noticed three Spanish speaking men, dressed in dark clothing.
The police called out to them not to move but two of them pointed firearms and shot at the officers. The policemen fired back. They then chased after the men through the bushes as there continued to be an exchange of gun fire. The men escaped.
The officers had called for back-up during the incident and officers from the Princes Town and San Fernando CIDs, Southern Division Task Force and Air Support Unit searched for the men but they were not found. The officers discharged 15 rounds of ammunition during the shooting.
