Séamus Power and Matti Schmid were five shots off the early pace despite making nine birdies in an opening 63 in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Power made two counting birdies as the big-hitting German weighed in with seven of his own in the fourball-betterball format at TPC Louisiana.
