Police have formally charged a San Lazaro farmer with the murder of 68-year-old Virginio Carillo, who was fatally attacked while riding his bicycle on Monday, July 13.
The accused has been identified as 26-year-old Christian Navel Velasquez.
Carillo was reportedly travelling along a road near a cane field in San Lazaro when he was attacked. Investigators believe the assailant emerged from nearby bushes and launched the fatal attack.
The killing sent shockwaves through the farming community, where Carillo was known as a hard-working resident and active member of the village.
Velasquez remains before the court as the investigation continues.
